Transfer Credit From Examinations and Other Sources

Credit by Examination
Credit may be granted for CLEP and DANTES examinations if adequate scores are achieved, the subject material is not duplicated by credits from other sources, and the subject is applicable to the degree requirements. The credit is based on a report of scores sent to Antioch by the testing agency. Details are available from the Admissions or Registrar’s offices.

Credit for Educational Experiences in the Armed Services
Credit may be granted toward the degree for experiences in the armed services that are applicable to the degree requirements. Antioch follows the guidelines published by the American Council on Education for evaluating education in the military. Details of the procedure and required documentation are available from the Admissions or Registrar’s offices.

Credit for Training Programs
Credit may be granted for training programs that have been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) or the New York Regents National Program on Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction (PONSI) for courses applicable to the Antioch degree. The courses are offered by business, industry, labor unions, government agencies and other non-collegiate sponsors, and Antioch follows the credit recommendations that appear in ACE and PONSI publications. Credit is based on the report issued by the sponsoring organization to Antioch. Details are available from the Admissions or Registrar’s offices. In addition, some emergency medical technician and paramedic training as well as some law enforcement training may be accepted by the faculty based on the recommendation of the Registrar.

Credit for Hospital-Based Nursing and Other Allied Health Programs
Hospital-based nursing and other allied health programs often provide an excellent education in social science and basic science while focusing on professional training. The passing of the nursing licensure exam further indicates mastery of scientific study. A bachelor of arts degree from Antioch is appropriate for allied health professionals whose interests are in new or non-traditional allied health fields (directing home care agencies, establishing a private practice) or in new careers. It is also appropriate for graduate study in law, psychology or other social sciences. Antioch does not offer a B.S.N. and the B.A. may not be considered adequate preparation for an M.S.N. Upon review by the Registrar, up to 90 quarter credits (the equivalent of 50 percent of a bachelor’s degree) earned in a nursing or other allied health program from a diploma program approved by the National League of Nursing (NLN) may be accepted if the student holds the RN license. Allied health students may also develop prior experiential learning portfolios for activities not covered by an academic transcript.

In addition to coming from examinations, credits can be transferred from another university or college or prior experiential learning. Under certain circumstances, we also allow non-degree students to participate in our courses.

QuoteThe experience at McGregor was very positive for me. I would not have the job I have today without my degree. And, the Saturday adult program was perfect for me. It allowed me to juggle both work and family, while I reached my lifelong dream of getting a college
