The Health and wellness major provides a wide basis of understanding of
how integrated medicine functions, what creates good health and how cultural
differences impact health care. This major was created to address the current
need for societal understanding that health is much more than the absence
of disease
The Health and Wellness major emphasizes team participation and leadership
skills development as part of the program to prepare healthcare practitioners
to effectively work together in a team environment.
Students who wish to start and manage their own
small businesses within the health and wellness arena will have access
to additional classes in Antioch University McGregor’s management
program.
Networking
The Health and Wellness major utilizes the expertise
of practitioners and instructors from a variety of healthcare fields as
well as providing opportunities for practicum/internships with providers.

and future employment opportunities in the field.
Completion of Bachelors’ Degree
Students who already have an associates’ degree or applied skills
training (possible experiential credit) have this opportunity to complete
their bachelor’s degree with courses that strengthen and widen their
current knowledge. Antioch University McGregor values the knowledge
and experience that its adult students bring to each class.
Opportunity for Research
Several courses provide the student with the tools and the opportunities
to critically evaluate present research and implement simple research of
their own interest. The significance of medical ethics in research and practice
is also highlighted.
Expanding knowledge of the Healthcare Field
Opportunities will be provided for a broad understanding
of the field of health and wellness. Classes will delve into the historical
worldwide movements, the basis for the present economics of healthcare,
and the “how-tos” of
working with current health care systems.
Special Focus
Both required and elective courses will bring special focus to the impact
of gender, nutrition, culture, family, and aging on health and wellness
issues. Special courses in psychology and patient advocacy will also be
offered.
Future Possibilities
The health care industry offers widely growing career opportunities for
trained and educated adults. These opportunities cannot be shipped out of
the United States as they serve a growing home population. Graduates can
work independently, in an integrated group of providers, in health and wellness
wing of corporations or in the many institutions that provide care for those
seeking a higher quality of life and wellness.
