Students' Privacy Rights
Policy Dated: March 1999
(FERPA - Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974)
This act gives students certain rights
with respect to their educational records. They are:
1. The right to inspect and review the
student's education records.
2. The right to request the amendment
of the student's education records to ensure that they are not inaccurate,
misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy or other
rights.
3. The right to consent to disclosure
of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education
records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without
consent (example-directory information - see below).
4. The right to secure a copy of Antioch
University McGregor's student records policy from the Registrar's Office.
5. The right to file complaints with
the Department of Education concerning alleged failures by institutions
to comply with the Act.
At its discretion, Antioch University
McGregor may release public or directory information in accordance with
the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
Students who wish directory information to be withheld must inform the
Registrar's Office in writing.
Antioch University defines directory
information as student name, address, campus box number, phone number(s),
McGregor e-mail address, dates of attendance, campus of enrollment, withdrawal
or graduation dates, degrees conferred, and major field of study.
Requests for non-disclosure of public
or directory information will be honored for the current academic year;
therefore, authorization to withhold public or directory information must
be filed annually with the Registrar's Office. Note that your name
will not be published in the commencement program if you request non-disclosure
during the academic year of your graduation.
