Biographical
Information
I am fortunate to serve as the youngest president in
New Jersey state history. I have served community colleges in many
functional leadership positions. I was formerly the Acting Vice President
for Academic
Services and Vice-President for Student Services at Gloucester County
College (NJ). I have also served as Executive Assistant to the President
for Advancement,
Planning, and Academic Effectiveness and as Executive Director of the
Foundation for Salem Community College (NJ), and I served as the Specialist
for Strategic
Planning at Burlington County College (NJ).
In these positions, I was
fortunate to have leadership responsibility to higher educational
areas including, academic outcomes assessment, faculty development,
curriculum, marketing, enrollment management, admissions, registration, financial
aid, academic advising, counseling, special needs, student health, student
activities, institutional research and planning, library services,
tutoring, learning resources,
development, grants, fundraising, and instructional technology. I have served
colleges that have had student populations ranging from 1,100 to 7,500+ students.
As
part of my dissertation, I developed a new strategic planning process,
detailed in our textbook, Strategic Planning for Smart Leadership.
I also developed
a renewed management structure and marketing strategy for a community college
enrollment
management and student development. Both the strategic planning process and
enrollment management systems have been identified as statewide, regional,
and national
best practices. In development work, I authored and managed over $3-million
in new competitive grants for high-tech workforce expansion, community development
projects, and teacher education improvement initiatives. As a foundation
executive director and board member, I was instrumental in the acquisition
of funds and
gifts.
I embrace the ideals of goal setting, collaborative decision-making,
leading by example, and inspiring others to act, achieve, and succeed.
I chose to
serve community colleges as a career because they exemplify my commitment
to open
access public education, high standards in educational excellence, the
value of continuous
personal/professional development, and learning.
I am a proponent of servant
leadership, have not followed any of the normal career patterns for
higher education management, have attacked bureaucracy
in all its
unnecessary forms, and look forward to sharing any small insights or
ideas with you that can help you to serve another person.
