Biographical Information
Dr. Richard Fairman has twenty-five
years of Ohio public school experience, teaching biological
science and advanced sciences in grades 7-12. Public School
teaching environments include urban, suburban, and rural
schools. Prior to coming to Antioch, Dr. Fairman’s
collegiate experience includes: an adjunct professorship
in the Teacher Education Department at Miami University,
Project Director for the National Science Foundation in
the area of Secondary Teacher Preparation, and Life Science
Coordinator for the National Science Foundation Statewide
Systemic Initiative in Ohio. Dr. Fairman has conducted workshops
for National Science Foundation Grant institutions and public
schools in Ohio and New York. The primary focuses of these
activities are the process of inquiry in science education
and the role of technology in improving science instruction.
Research interests of Dr. Fairman’s include the impact
of inquiry-based learning on student performance, urban
education, and the evolution of concerns in preservice teachers.
Dr. Fairman was honored with the Sigma Xi Teaching Achievement
Awards in Mathematics and Science.
