Biographical Information

I have nearly 10 years of experience in higher education, ranging from student affairs work to academic administration.  My professional expertise and research interests are in institutional research, strategic planning, data-informed leadership, institutional change and innovation, and legal issues in higher education.  Recently, I have played important leadership roles in building integrated institutional research, planning, and assessment functions at several colleges and universities.  I enjoy designing and launching institution-wide planning efforts that are inclusive of both strategic management goals and student learning outcomes.

Before joining Capital University as Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, I held posts at Brown University, Boston College, and the Berklee College of Music.  I also worked with the Massachusetts State Board of Higher Education on project-based work assignments focusing on long-range technology planning.

My academic preparation focused on organizational theory and planning, along with an emphasis on legal issues in higher education – the rights of students in student activism and recurring legislation surrounding the reauthorization of the Higher Education Amendments.

In addition to my primary work responsibilities, I frequently consult with colleges and universities on issues related to institutional planning and assessment.  The majority of my consulting experience has involved working directly with community college leaders in identifying market trends and potential academic demand.

I regularly present my research at professional conferences.  I am currently researching principles necessary for providing effective decision support for today’s college and university executives.  I enjoy writing opinion-editorials and designing online forum discussions dedicated to important issues facing American higher education.
