Biographical Information

I have 30 years of higher education administration and teaching experience, most recently as president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District encompassing 3 counties in Wyoming, comprised of Sheridan College, Gillette College, and an outreach center in Buffalo with an annual enrollment of over 4000 credit students.  Sheridan College is a CraftNet college, focusing a major economic development effort on arts and culture within our service region.  Gillette is home to the largest coal mining region in the U.S., producing the coal for 35% of the nation’s electricity.  Consequently, industry training and technical degrees are a major focus there. Both colleges have strong traditions in transfer education as well. Immediately prior I was Vice President for Enrollment/Student and Public Affairs at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Massachusetts, home of the first-of-its-kind, national award winning STCC Technology Park. I sit on the boards of several local and national organizations.

Prior to Springfield Tech, I was for two years Regional Vice President for Student Affairs at Manchester/Stratham Community Technical College in Manchester, Stratham and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I also held positions with a number of educational and community organizations in southeastern, NH. The colleges were formerly separate technical colleges for 50 years but were forced by the governor to merge into one comprehensive community college system with two colleges in each organization shortly before my arrival. Main campuses are 40 miles apart. The colleges have since become separate colleges once again.

Prior to New Hampshire I held a number of positions over 7 years on the cutting edge of distance learning at the time. I oversaw a Title III Grant for Nova Southeastern University, was Assistant Academic Dean for Distance Learning and Asst. Professor at St. Joseph's College of Maine with over 5000 students worldwide, and I was Associate Executive Director of the Community College of Maine, a first-of-its-kind statewide telecommunications effort carrying associate degrees to over 50 locations across Maine via live interactive television and outreach centers throughout Maine with courses and programs offered from the 7 University of Maine campuses.

Prior to becoming involved in distance learning I held more traditional student affairs positions in student activities and residence life at a large urban community college and a small residential university.
