Biographical Information
I am a community college graduate who proudly served
as the final chancellor of the Minnesota Community College
system. Prior to doing that I served as a Dean, Academic
Vice President and President in California, Washington
and Minnesota.
As a Community College innovator
I am proudest of the creation of Fond du Lac Tribal and
Community College, the nation’s only dual governed college, a partnership
between the State of Minnesota and the Fond du Lac Band
of Lake Superior Ojibwe. I also served as silent
consultant and advisor to a community group who successfully
advocated for and established Gateway Community and Technical
College in Northern Kentucky. Currently, I am interested
in helping Indiana create a workable community college
system.
In 1973 I graduated from El Camino
College and became the first person in my family to graduate
from anything. Twenty-two
years later I repaid the debt owed to Community Colleges
by ensuring that future generations of Minnesotans would
have access to community colleges by protection of the
community college mission during a time of incredibly poor
planning.
My passions have been many but consistently in my career
you find community colleges, adult degree programs and
minority serving institutions.
I served as a core faculty member
and Interim Academic Vice President at The Union Institute. I’ve
managed Central Michigan University’s programs in
Puerto Rico and I’ve taught for many universities.
Currenty I am professor of management
and chair of business and economics at Indiana University
East. Previously
I was a professor of management and coordinator of MBA/MPA
programs at the University of the Virgin Islands.
Living in Northern Kentucky (Cincinnati
Suburb) with my wife Ruth Ann and whichever of our five
children happened to need a roof over their heads, I’m
honored to work with you.
