Ohio Principal Licensure

Requirements

1. Complete Summer Sessions / 3-5 Quarters including Internship and/or Final Project with a volunteer school leader/administrator and/or

2. Complete Fall, Winter,Spring Sessions / 3-5 Quarters including Internship and/or Final Project with a volunteer school leader/administrator.

Note: All requirements must be completed within seven years of initial enrollment.

To be considered an applicant for the Principal Licensure program you must clearly demonstrate, through the submission of documentation, the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 2.5 undergraduate gpa and/or 3.0 gpa in all previous graduate work.
  • A current teaching certificate /license.
  • An earned master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Candidates must meet state requirements for licensure.
  • Required 2 years teaching experience.

This program requires successful completion of the following:

  • The quarter length internship experience.
  • The professional portfolio.
  • 68 credit hours (45 hours may transfer into the program)

Note: All requirements must be completed within seven years of initial enrollment.

All Principal Licensure Candidates who wish to be recommended for an Ohio Principal License by the Department of Teacher Education of Antioch University McGregor must follow the processes outlined below:

  • Principal Licensure Program Participants must complete an Exit Interview with program staff. This ‘interview’ will include verification of adequate teaching experience and current Ohio teaching certificate/license;
  • a copy of Praxis II results at, or above, the State of Ohio pass rate;
  • review of a faculty recommendation stating that the candidate is ready to accept the challenges of School Administration at the level of Principal and verification of completed program coursework.
Non-matriculant Principal Licensure Candidates must petition the Director of Teacher Education at Antioch University McGregor for Principal Licensure recommendation. This petition will include a self-reflective paper which states the reasons the candidate feels he/she will be a suitable school Principal; a recommendation from the Program Chair; a faculty recommendation; a copy of Praxis II results at, or above, the State of Ohio Pass Rate, and documentation that the required program coursework has been completed.

A copy of a current teaching certificate and verification of two years teaching experience in the age groups at which he/she wishes to be a principal is also required. In addition an official transcript verifying that the Candidate has earned a Master’s degree must be sent to the McGregor Registrar’s Office. The classes listed below must be taken at Antioch University McGregor.
