This program is characterized by a more practical and realistic orientation
to school administration. Students learn through exposure to real challenges,
interaction with successful school and district leaders, and guided inquiry
into real school problems. There is a strong emphasis on curricular and instructional
leadership issues. Through coursework and field experiences, students develop
knowledge and skills to foster school climates in which evaluation is part
of the learning process, curriculum and assessment are aligned, and both formal
and informal assessment ensure the continual development of learners.
The Principal Licensure curriculum emphasizes the skills necessary to assess
a school community and create a supportive, engaging and positive climate.
Though emphasis is on whole-person learning, development and community, the
Principal Licensure Program prepares leaders skillful in fostering responsible
and thoughtful climates that address social and psychological needs as well
as intellectual ones.
Antioch University McGregors Principal Licensure Program utilizes a collaborative
approach to education based on Antioch Universitys tradition of addressing
intellectual, emotional and ethical development, and combines it with organizational
management skills. This results in leadership that is effective on multiple
levels. A collaborative leader affirms all stakeholders interests
and forms lasting partnerships among parents, teachers, students, and administrators.
This leader also has organizational skills which ensure that the structures
are in place to foster a life long learning process.
The programs internship incorporates an experiential learning
piece with a current principal. Students are required to complete a professional
portfolio at the end of the internship.
