Overview
The 27-quarter credit gifted endorsement program consists of 6 classes that prepare certificated, provisionally or professional licensed teachers to teach gifted and talented students in public, community, or private schools in Ohio grades K-12. Program elements cover the developmental characteristics, environmental factors and teaching methods required to understand and engage gifted students. The classes are designed for practicing professionals and are offered in the evenings. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Through small group activities and in-depth classroom discussions students learn to understand, and examine, theories and assumptions about human growth, development, and learning that surround the delivery of effective instruction. Class work also emphasizes the importance of examining and mastering the interpersonal, organizational, technical and conceptual skills that are necessary to sustain school improvements over time.
