The Ceremony
The June commencement ceremony honors students who have completed their degree requirements by the end of the summer quarter of this year.
Commencement is Sunday, June 29th, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and should last approximately two hours.
All students are required to complete and submit the graduation application in order to trigger the graduation audit and is used to order diplomas and to participate in commencement. Please see the FAQ area for more information about the graduation application process.
2008 Graduation Speaker
Eric D. Fingerhut
Chancellor, Ohio Board of Regents
Eric D. Fingerhut was appointed the seventh Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents on March 14, 2007. In 1991-92 and from 1999-2006, Mr. Fingerhut represented Ohio’s 25th Senate District, which is located in the eastern half of Cuyahoga County. He served for eight years on the Finance (Budget) Committee, with six of those years as the ranking Minority Member. He also served on the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee, on the Judiciary Committee on Civil Justice, on the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee, on the Health, Human Services and Aging Committee, and on the Education Committee.
Mr. Fingerhut previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993-94, serving on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs Committee.
Trained as a lawyer, Fingerhut served as an attorney in the Older Person’s Law Office of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, as an attorney with the Cleveland firm of Hahn, Loeser & Parks, and as the Associate Director of Cleveland Works, a nationally recognized, innovative welfare-to-work program. Mr. Fingerhut has served as Senior Fellow at the Center for Community Solutions (formerly the Federation for Community Planning,) a non-profit organization that takes the lead in planning and advocacy on health and human services issues in Greater Cleveland.
From 2005-07, Mr. Fingerhut joined the Business Administration faculty of Baldwin-Wallace College as the Director of Economic Development Education and Entrepreneurship. He also has also served as a Senior Lecturer at Case Western Reserve University.
A 1977 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Mr. Fingerhut earned a Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors from Northwestern University in 1981 and received a law degree from the Stanford University School of Law in 1984.
The Chancellor is currently heading up a comprehensive strategic planning effort for the University System of Ohio (USO); including input on the role of private colleges and universities.
The Chancellor and his wife, Amy, along with their two young sons, Sam and Charlie, reside in Columbus, Ohio.
Ordering Academic Regalia
The regalia, for the commencement ceremony can be ordered from Key Plus Collegiate Products by phone at (866) 450-7587 or online at www.keyplusinc.com. The cap, gown and tassel are black. The hood contains 3 colors and is needed only by those students graduating with a Master's Degree.
The hood colors for those graduating with a Master's Degree are royal blue and gold (school colors) and color depicting your discipline. The discipline colors are as follows:
- School of Education - light blue
- School of Liberal Studies - White (this includes Individualized Liberal & Professional Studies and Conflict Resolution)
- Graduate Management - Drab
Commencement Line-up
Graduates and faculty need to be at the Schuster Center no later than 1 PM.
Graduates, faculty, staff and volunteers will enter through the stage door entrance on Ludlow Street. Only individuals with wrist bands are permitted backstage. Upon arrival at the Schuster Center, staff and volunteers will assist the graduates and faculty with hooding and the line-up.
Please give your valuables to a friend or family member before reporting to the dressing area. Location
The ceremony will take place in the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. No tickets are required. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors to the auditorium will open for guests at 1:15 PM.

- From I-75: Take the First Street (Rt. 49) exit; follow east to Ludlow Street. Turn right. The Schuster Center occupies the entire block between Ludlow and Main Street, along Second Street. There is an entrance on Ludlow at Second.
- From US-35: Take the Main Street (Rt. 48) exit; follow Main Street north to Second Street. The Schuster Center occupies the entire block between Ludlow and Main Street, along Second Street.
- From I-70: Take I-675 south to US-35 and follow the above directions for US-35.
Parking Instructions
The Schuster Center parking garage (see #18 in link to left) sits on the corner of Ludlow and Second Street. There is also parking on the street.
Academic Regalia Requirements

Graduates receiving their Bachelor of Arts Degree, or Teaching certification should order cap, gown and tassel. Graduates receiving their Master of Arts or Master of Education should order cap, gown, tassel and hood.

- School of Education – Light blue

Program Thank You
Many students wish to thank friends, loved ones, etc., for bearing with them throughout their academic journey. It is not possible to allow each student to verbally do so during the ceremony. Therefore, we provide the opportunity to write your "thank you" and have it inserted in the commencement program. To submit your information, please use THIS FORM. Please limit your "thank you" to no more than 100 words. If it is longer than 100 words, it will not be included. The "thank you" may be emailed to sroderick@mcgregor. edu.
The program "Thank You" is due no later than May 9, 2008. Identification Graduates, faculty and staff will be required to show the ID bracelets issued to them by the Alumni Relations Office. Diplomas Diplomas are ordered by the Registrar’s Office. The diplomas will have the degree printed but not the major. The major is listed on your transcript. Exit Interviews Students who have received financial aid are required by the Department of Education to complete Exit Loan Counseling before diplomas can be released. Auditory Assistance Accommodations for those who are hearing impaired will be provided in the form of an American Sign Language interpreter. |
