ANTIOCH UNIVERSITY APPOINTS
CRAIGLOW AS CHANCELLOR
YELLOW SPRINGS, OHIO James W.
Hall, Chancellor of Antioch University since January 1998, officially
resigned his post as chancellor, effective February 14, 2002.
At the February meeting of the Antioch University Board of Trustees,
the trustees conferred
upon Dr. Hall the titles of Distinguished University Professor
and Chancellor Emeritus, effective February 15, 2002. Among other
things, Hall will oversee
the North Central Association accreditation process and assist
the Board in the recruitment and selection of a new chancellor
who would begin in
September 2003. The Board has appointed Jim Craiglow, President
of Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, NH, to serve
as chancellor in an
acting capacity until that time.
Craiglow, who had announced last July
his decision to step down from the presidency of Antioch New England in
June 2002, has a twenty-five year history with Antioch University and
Antioch New England. Throughout these years he has had numerous University-wide
assignments for the five-campus system including academic advisory assignments
and ad hoc and search committee assignments. At Antioch New England he
served for nine years as Associate Dean and for the last sixteen plus
years as CEO and President.
Antioch University Board of Trustees
chair, Robert Krinsky, stated that Jim Craiglows long experience
with Antioch University makes him an ideal person to be its acting chancellor
while the Board does a national search for a permanent chancellor. Jim
has worked with the presidents of all the Antioch campuses through his
service on the University Leadership Council. Krinsky added He
is also the parent of an Antioch college graduate!
During his presidential tenure at Antioch
New England, Craiglow spearheaded the effort to purchase and
rehabilitate the abandoned Sprague and Carleton factory building
in Keene into a permanent
home and campus for the Graduate School, and opened a new site
for management degree programs in Portsmouth, NH; saw Antioch
New Englands student
population more than double in size and its academic programming achieve
high praise for its quality and innovation from numerous external accreditation
and licensure bodies; developed strong library and technological infrastructures;
and significantly enhanced Antioch New Englands visibility in Keene
and in the Monadnock Region through its services and grant and contract
activities, now in excess of $1.8 million annually. Significant program
initiatives were also launched during Craiglows presidential tenure
including the Doctoral (Ph.D.) Program in Environmental Studies,
the Critical Skills Program, the Marriage and Therapy Program,
the Environmental Advocacy
Program, and various certificate programs.
