Antioch University Extends Chancellor Term,
Appoints Vice Chancellors
Yellow Springs, Ohio — The Board of Trustees announced that Toni Murdock, Ph.D., has accepted the Board's request to continue as Chancellor of the University until June 2008. Dr. Murdock served as president of Antioch University’s campus in Seattle from 1997-2006 and was appointed interim Chancellor in October 2005.
“Dr. Murdock has done an outstanding job as Chancellor,” said Arthur J. Zucker, Board of Trustees Chairman. “Antioch University is fortunate to have a leader with the skill level and expertise she possesses. Dr. Murdock’s leadership will help to ensure that Antioch University remains a progressive force in American higher education as we move forward.”
Studies have shown that as of 2005 there were 56 college and university systems in the United States, only six of which were headed by women. Antioch University’s Murdock is one of the six U.S. university system chancellors. Of the 2,868 college and university presidents, 808 were women.
Antioch University has a solid leadership team in place, known as the University Leadership Council (ULC) that consists of all the Chancellor’s direct reports. The ULC is a collaborative group of seasoned professionals that works in tandem with the Chancellor and the Board to strengthen the University’s financial planning, governance and institutional technology as well as develop its academic programs.
The University is also announcing the creation of two new positions: Vice Chancellor of Advancement and Vice Chancellor for University Academic Affairs. Mary Lou LaPierre – a nearly 40 year veteran of educational administration – has been appointed to the Advancement position. Her duties consist of collaboration of all Antioch campuses for the functional areas of public relations, marketing, admissions, fundraising and alumni relations. Dr. Laurien Alexandre has been promoted to the new University Academic Affairs position. In this role, she will facilitate university-wide academic programming and collaboration, seek to integrate academic support services as appropriate, coordinate academic program and policy reviews, and continue to oversee the University’s Ph.D. in Leadership & Change program. Alexandre has been with the University in various positions for over 15 years.
Antioch University includes Antioch New England in Keene, New Hampshire; Antioch University Seattle; Antioch University Southern California in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara; Antioch University McGregor and Antioch College, both in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The University's administrative offices are also located in Yellow Springs. Antioch University is founded on principles of rigorous liberal arts education, innovative experiential learning and socially engaged citizenship. The multiple campuses of the University nurture in their students the knowledge, skills and habits of reflection to excel as lifelong learners, democratic leaders and global citizens who live lives of meaning and purpose.
