to Speak at Antioch University McGregor Commencement
YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio,
May 16, 2002. Antioch University McGregor has proudly chosen Jeffrey C.
Bruce to deliver the commencement address at the 2002 graduation ceremony,
which will be held on July 14, 10:00am, at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton,
Ohio.
Mr. Bruce is editor of
the Dayton Daily News, a position he has held for the past four
and a half years. In 2000, the Dayton Daily News was named the
best newspaper in Ohio by two statewide press organizations and
in 2002 the
newspaper
was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Mr. Bruce has been an
editor with various Cox newspapers for more than 25 years. He
has received numerous
awards during his career including the Society of Professional
Journalists' national "Sunshine" Award for his work in opening
government to public scrutiny. He currently serves as a director
of the Ohio Coalition
for Open Government and is a member of the American Society of
Newspaper Editors, Dayton Rotary and other local civic organizations.
Jeffrey Bruce is a current
graduate student at Antioch University McGregor, working on his
Masters
degree in the Individualized Liberal and Professional Studies
program. A leading member of the journalism and Miami Valley
communities, Mr. Bruce
has unique insight into the events of this past year (Sept. 11)
and the impact on both the professional world and individuals.
Dr.
Barbara Gellman-Danley, President of Antioch University McGregor,
remarked, Mr. Bruce came
to McGregor with a distinguished career, seeking further education. He
is on a cognitive quest, exemplifying the quality of our adult students
who combine career and school. It is with great pride we ask him to speak--as
a respected professional and a work in progress--a lifelong
learner.
