Technology Competency
Requirements
Students in this program participate in both face-to-face and online learning activities. Learning is organized around small- and large-group learning communities and virtual teams. Students and faculty participate in on-going online discussions and students participate in team projects, which are developed primarily online. Therefore, in addition to having the traditional graduate learning skills, students are expected to have the following basic technological skills upon entrance into the program:
- Skill in using an Internet browser and a search engine
- Skill in basic word processing, and spreadsheet applications
- Skill in sending and receiving electronic mail
- Skill in sending, receiving, and making changes to a word processed document
Individuals who have little or no experience with these technologies may participate in noncredit professional development courses offered by Antioch University McGregor or by a community college local to them prior to enrollment in our program. Evidence of competencies will be required at the first residency session.
Computer Requirements
All students are required to have a computer and Internet access.
For students who need to purchase a computer to meet these requirements, the costs can be covered through your financial aid package. Please contact Kathy John, Director of Financial Aid at 937-769-1840 or kjohn@mcgregor.edu for further information.

Software
Minimum Requirements
Students in this program will be working in teams on projects and will be sharing documents. Therefore, they need at a minimum of a current word processing application and virus protection. Additional software that is recommended include a spreadsheet application and presentation software.
Word Processing Recommendations
Any word processing program that saves and opens text files and that saves in multiple file formats can be used.
- If you will be using Microsoft products, a good choice would be Office XP (PC) or Office 2001 (Mac) or later.
- If you will be using Corel products, a good choice would be Corel Office 2000 (PC only) or later.
- If you will be using Sun products, a good choice would be StarOffice 5.2. or later.
Since you will be sharing documents, we do not recommend that you use software such as Microsoft Works or Claris Works, or Lotus WordPro, which may not offer file compatibility.
Anti-Virus Software
Students have the responsibility to keep their computers virus-free, since they will be sending and receiving documents to each other and to their professors. Antioch University provides anti-virus software via FirstClass that may be installed on student-owned computers. Students are expected to update their anti-virus software regularly.
